Instructions to authors and presenters of papers

Authors and presenters are invited to submit papers of approximately 2000 to 3000 words for presentation at the SA Energy Storage 2018 conference.

Presenters (i.e. one person per paper presented) may attend the conference on the day of their presentation at no cost, but if the presenter wishes to attend the full two-day conference and hospitality functions (refreshments, lunches, cocktail party, etc.), then a reduced delegate fee of R2745 + VAT applies.

Key dates and deadlines for papers

Call for abstracts and presenters of papers: Commencing 12 June 2018.
Submission of abstracts for selection: Closing 21 August 2018
Notification of acceptance for presentation of a paper:  18 September 2018.
Submission of final full-text paper for approval: Closing 9 October 2018.

Presentation of  papers at SA Energy Storage 2017: 22 and 23 October 2018

Publishing of papers presented at SA Energy Storage 2018

Papers will be selected on the basis of their significance, relevance, correctness, originality and clarity following a review process (see below). Upon acceptance, the final papers will be published on the SA Energy Storage 2018 conference memory stick and website. Selected papers may also be published in Energize and Vector magazines.

Content of papers

Papers should be approximately 2000 to 3000 words in length, relevant to the themes and subject matter of the conference, and of general interest and relevance to the target audience.

Proprietary technologies, products and services may be described, and papers detailing client applications of the technology, product or skills will receive preference.

Authors and presenters of papers should aim to serve the needs of conference delegates, provide appropriate solutions, and share knowledge and experience.

The selection process and timing for papers and presentations

Following a formal call for papers commencing 12 June 2018, the title, principal author, abstract/synopsis and brief CV of the presenter must be submitted online here by 21 August 2018.

Abstracts received will be reviewed and selected by the SA Energy Storage 2018 papers committee based on their innovation, significance, relevance, originality and other considerations.

The principal author will be advised of the outcome of the abstract selection by 18 September 2018.

The final full-text paper must be submitted online or via email to Energize editor Roger Lilley roger.lilley@ee.co.za by 9 October 2018 for approval, publishing and inclusion on the digital Proceedings of the SA Energy Storage 2018 Conference and insertion into the delegate bags.

Presentations at the conference without a full-text paper that has been approved and accepted for publication in the conference proceedings will not be allowed.

Presentations

Authors will be allocated a 30-minute slot (including introduction, questions and answers) at the SA Energy Storage 2018 conference to present their papers, and will be provided with a digital projector, screen, laser pointer, podium, microphone, remote mouse and notebook PC with the latest version of PowerPoint for their presentation. Due to time limitations, the presentations will be limited to 15 slides.

The opening slide of a presentation must follow a defined conference slide template, but subsequent slides may be free format. Presenters must ensure the text of their slides has adequately sized fonts and background contrast for visibility.

Copyright of papers

Copyright of papers presented at the SA Energy Storage 2018 conference is vested in EE Publishers and the author(s), and the papers will be published on the conference proceedings memory stick and website. Selected papers may also be published in Energize and Vector magazines.

Permission is not required for publishing of abstracts, for copying of papers for personal use, or for publishing by the authors of their papers on their personal websites or their organisation’s public archive, provided that the full details of the source are acknowledged.

Other than this, papers may not be copied, republished, transmitted or used commercially in any form without the written permission of EE Publishers and the author(s).
